A late update, but almost two weeks ago I got to attend trial with my mentor again and see a case furthered into the process. This was a great case to watch as I was already familiar with the content and the family which helped my understanding. My attorney and the opposing attorney both presented their cases and then both the clients were called to testify about what has been happening recently in the case. It became evident that the ex-husband had been excessively texting the woman while not making progress to see his daughter. It was also very obvious that he has not been in the correct mental state to begin making better relations. This led to the judge making the final decision of a four year protective order against the dad which will go through 2028 and also all of court and attorney payments to be put on the father. It was super cool to see the witnesses testify and how questioning and then cross occurs in a court of law and the authentic side of the family during that time. Additionally, to see my mentor complete this process was great to further understand how she tackles each case.
Besides mentor visits, I have been working very busily with my final product and final presentation night coming up very quickly. I am working on officially finalizing my physical and digital new client welcome packet in order to present and turn in. This process has been quite stressful as is typical of me being a procrastinator. I waited until about 2 weeks to fully immerse myself in this process and it has been crazy, however it has been such a learning experience and has helped me so much to learn more about the field of family law and the process of being an attorney to a client. By working through all of these documents that my mentor has provided as well that I have found on my own it has greatly increased my knowledge and confidence in the topic. Next is final presentation night which I need to work on to prepare my presentation and practice practice practice for monday night! It is crazy to think that in a week all of the ISM chaos will be almost over, this year has flown by.
