Over the past month, my mentor has been recovering from her surgery which has resulted in a lot of in class work and working on research for my Final Product which has been very beneficial. However, I have greatly missed my mentor visits and also being able to go in and see my mentor. Last Tuesday, I got to sit in on one of my mentor’s meditations which I have never gotten to witness before. I got to sit on this zoom for about two and a half hours which seems like a lot of time, but was so fun and interesting. Towards the start, I was almost sure they were going to settle as good progress was being made and everyone was in agreement. However, when some information was revealed, my mentor’s client refused to settle so this case is now being taken to trial in about a month which I am hoping to attend. The mediation was a little different than I thought as the mediator hops between the two rooms and opposing counsel is never together. The mediator is truly the middle man which was very beneficial to help keep the peace and relay messages in a polite and accurate way without the rash feelings of each counsel.
During the mediation, when the mediator was talking with opposing counsel, I got a chance to talk with my mentor and update each other on life and also get to talk about my Final Product. She provided me with more advice on how she would construct this portfolio online and also some more vital pieces to include. This consisted of a typical custody schedule and stuff to provide a basic for individuals through this time. Also, an idea she gave me that I thoroughly enjoyed is to create a calendar for children so they can easily see their own schedule and to try and create it in a fun and interactive way to make this process as easy as possible. I am now going to work on trying to find a way to incorporate this and further working on my Final Product. Also, I am planning to go to trial with my mentor again next Thursday, so I will keep you all posted!!
