Last week in Independent Study and Mentorship, I had the opportunity to interview with 2 incredible family attorneys that have already changed my insight on the field just from 2 30 minute interviews. I started the week interviewing through zoom with Rebecca Armstrong which I touched on in my last blog, and then finished my week interviewing with Alyssa Herrington.
In previous weeks, I have reached out and emailed tons of professionals within the field, and as we know there has been a lack of responses. However, on Tuesday nervously opening up my email as always, I had a notification from Alyssa Herrington! I was very eager when she said that she would be interested in doing an interview with me, so through some planning we set up an interview. I was so excited to have this opportunity, but also nervous to go to her office and meet with her.
After struggling to find the right building space for about 10 minutes, I finally made it in for my interview. Mrs. Herrinngton was a joy to meet with and she reinforced my passion for the field. Through telling me about her story and her calling to the field which is similar to mine in a way through personal experiences, it was very relatable. She was super easy to talk to and made the interview more of a conversation rather than an uptight meeting which I was super grateful for. It is always interesting to hear different people’s opinions about the field and how they manage the different aspects that family law brings. Another interesting aspect I found was that she and Mrs. Armstorng, the professional I interviewed with earlier in the week, shared with me a lot of the same advice and information which helps to reinforce my ideas and perspective of the job of family law. Gratefully, Alyssa Herrington also provided me with more contacts of professionals she is close with in the field of family law that I could reach out to which provides me with a great more opportunities.
