Well we are officially back in the most full swing of school. Things are already getting hectic with everything going on and it is time to get back to being focused and fully ready for this semester. This previous week in ISM was quite busy for me as it consisted of my original work speech, another mentor visit, and a fire drill that wasn’t a drill.
My week began with my original work speech on Monday which seemed quite daunting at first due to the extreme length of 20 minutes, but I think it ended up going better than I expected. It felt very natural for me to talk for 20 minutes because everything I talked about was very exciting to me and I knew it all like the back of my hand so it required very little memorization. This speech showed me just one of the many reasons why I love ISM as I get to talk about something I love, not something that I am forced to talk about. My speech covered all of my journey in ISM so far, my mentor, mentor visits, a recap of my last speech, and the upcomings of ISM. These are all things I enjoyed experiencing which made them very easy to talk about and I loved getting to tell as well because I feel like this whole journey has been one big roller coaster ride.
After my speech, on Thursday I got to meet again with my mentor, Mrs. Neal, at her office. I got to listen into one of her phone calls with another attorney and a collaborative third party who is creating a divorce agreement between two parties. I still find it fascinating to see all the behind the scenes of family law and all of the details and tedious work put into each and every divorce. After that, I got to upload some files for Mrs. Neal into her cases and also just had the opportunity to chat with her about cases, people, school, college, family, and everything. I am so grateful to have a mentor who makes everything seem so natural and nonchalant in an environment like that.
Upcoming in Independent Study & Mentorship, I have my presentation board sooner than I even imagined as I feel like that deadline has very quickly snuck up on me which is this Thursday! I really need to get on that, but I am so excited to be creative and design my board as I love projects like that. I am also continuing to plan my final product and also prepare for major events such as final presentation night and our event at UNT. ISM has been such an amazing experience this year and I can’t believe that it already feels like it is coming to an end, so I plan to really soak in all these experiences over the next few months.
