Throughout this past week in Independent Study and Mentorship we continued perfecting our resumes, collecting our professional dress, and continued our in depth research through an annotated bibliography. Through these assignments I have been able to construct my professional appearance and find ways to display the person I want to be to others. Our professional dress attire is in preparation for our upcoming Professional Symposium where we must look our best in order to create the right image for not only this program, but ourselves as well.
One assignment that I really enjoyed over this past week was the resume that we got to create for ourselves and also we got to peer review for other students in ISM. This allowed me to get to know my classmates better and learn more about what they will be studying this year which was something I have been looking forward to. Building relationships is a key component of this class and I am grateful that I got to develop more friendships with other students. Also, perfecting my resume was something I enjoyed as it is one piece of paper that accurately reflects me as a person, so it was a fun experience to try and put myself down on paper.
Finally, this week we got to continue our research on our topic and I got to dive deeper into the field and subtopics of family law. I looked into topics of adoption, the court system, and sensitive topics such as sexual abuse as well. While these are very sensitive topics, they are very vital in understanding family law and I am grateful I got to look further into that. I also examined the court system and how long it often takes for cases to make it through the court system where issues can arise. This led me to reflect on how I would handle these situations and long processes as a family attorney while still best serving my clients. These subtopics of exploration are also leading me into this upcoming week as we will be choosing a specific field of study under our broader topic. This is going to be a challenge for me, but I hope I will be able to magnify on the certain topic that interests me the most and this research has been very beneficial in determining this topic.
