Recovering from Break - January 15, 2024

We have just made it through the first week back from break and we survived! Break was very relaxing which was essential for me during this time, but now we are back in the full swing of class and chaos. While I am excited to be back, it is definitely taking a minute to get back into the groove of it. I officially have a mentor and the mentorship aspect has been going great. It has been everything I imagined and such a cool experience, so I am excited to see what the rest of this mentorship progress will bring.

Over the break, I had the amazing privilege to go to trial with my mentor and see the family attorney profession in action. It was way more casual and different than I thought, but even more than I imagined. We first got there and they did the civil cases in order from shortest to longest, so we got to watch a few other trials first. They were super interesting and ranged from Collin College Cases to bringing out a prisoner from the back. That was something I definitely did not expect and dropped my jaw, but was such a cool aspect to add to the trial.

When our trial finally started, it was incredible to see my mentor in action and how the process worked. The trial ended up going in favor for my mentor which was cool to see and the preparation she brought was something that I had not thought much about in family law.  The amount of binders and work put into the case before trial blew my mind and raised my respect even more for the profession. After the trial ended, I also had the privilege to meet the judge on the case and it was great to be involved and make connections!
