In the Independent Study and Mentorship program recently, we have been working on and producing our 10 minute research speeches. Some students began going last week in class and I was amazed with how well everyone has been doing. I have been very impressed with everyone’s fluidity in speaking and how well everyone’s speeches have flowed without much hesitation at all. I have also learned a lot from the speeches which also shows their high quality as I have been able to easily take away information. From other law related speeches to anesthesia and other topics they have all been very informative. I have my speech on Thursday this week and I have completed the majority of the planning of what I am going to present and the order and such, but I still need to do more work to construct a more concrete idea. While I am a little nervous, I know that everyone is nervous which makes it more comforting.
Additionally, we are also finishing up our research interview process and working on finalizing or getting an idea for mentorship. I have completed 2 interviews, and am working on scheduling my 3rd and final research interview which looks like it is going to be next week. Then I hope to have a mentor finalized before Thanksgiving break, so when I get back from break I don’t have to worry about that and I can focus on my original work. I have an idea of who I would like to be my mentor and feel decently comfortable that she would like to pursue the mentor role as well. However, I am not sure exactly how to go about the whole process of asking her to be my mentor, which I will need to figure out my plan sometime soon for that!
