It is the first day back from Thanksgiving break and even though I am at the hospital with my mom from a procedure, I am feeling motivated to tackle the remaining week of the first semester. Over the break, I got my third and final research interview with Ms. Mary Neal, who is a family attorney in Frisco with a focus on high conflict in child custody. It was amazing getting to talk with her and hear about the work she does and how she focuses on high conflict cases. Additionally, having the chance to hear some of her stories and the impact she has been able to make has inspired me and motivated me more to pursue this field. If I could describe her in one word, I would say tough, for the way she handles the hardest of cases and then balances that with her own life. Also, the most insane thing I found out is she typically takes on more than 40 cases at a time, which is absolutely crazy to me with all the work, energy, and time put into each case. With this being said, since I have completed all 3 of my research interviews, I now need to make the decision of who I want to be my mentor. I am confident that I have it narrowed down to two people, but unsure of who exactly. However, I am so excited to begin a mentorship and that relationship to learn more about the field.
Additionally, this week I need to continue preparing for my original work project due before the semester. I have done a decent amount of research for this project, but I need to start organizing that research and filling in the missing holes so I am not stressed out at the last minute. Also, I need to log all my hours this week so I can ensure I am collecting all the hours needed for this project. Despite all the hard work required, I am very excited to complete this project as I hope it will be a great opportunity to create something to help others and provide resources.
